Thought for the day 17 April

The Earl and Countess of Strathearn (William and Kate) were interviewed on the radio today expressing their concern for the effects of responding to the Covid-19 crisis on the mental health of healthcare and social care workers. Long hours, intense concentration, many sad experiences and worry about their own health and whether they could be carriers of the disease, can all take their toll in the longer term. At one time staff would have been expected simply to observe the ‘stiff upper lip’. Now we know the damage that that approach cost. If we have the opportunity, let’s encourage such workers to take care for their own physical and mental well-being, and to look to the support mechanisms that are in place to help them

Lord, thank you for the selfless work done by healthcare and social care workers. May they also look to their own physical and mental well-being, and may all the appropriate support mechanisms be in place for them
